For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
Because God was seriously angry with Jerusalem and Judah, he let things get so bad that he basically turned his back on them completely. That's when Zedekiah decided to rebel against the king of Babylon.
Sometimes when we keep messing up, God steps back and lets us face the consequences of our choices.
📚 Historical Context
During the 6th century BC, Judah was under Babylonian rule as a consequence of the nation's repeated idolatry and disobedience to God's laws, as warned by prophets like Jeremiah. King Zedekiah, installed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, rebelled against him, which directly led to the siege of Jerusalem and the exile of the people as part of God's judgment. This event marked the culmination of divine warnings about the dangers of turning away from covenant faithfulness.
