Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
Because the day is coming when all the Philistines will be completely destroyed, and Tyre and Sidon will lose every ally they have left. The LORD is going to wipe out the Philistines, everyone who's left from their original homeland of Caphtor.
When God decides it's over, even your backup plans and allies can't save you.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the 7th century BC, Judah was under threat from rising empires like Babylon, and Jeremiah delivered prophecies of God's judgment on surrounding nations. The Philistines, ancient enemies of Israel who inhabited the coastal regions, are targeted here, along with their allies in Tyre and Sidon, as God declares their destruction. Caphtor, believed to be Crete, is mentioned as the Philistines' original homeland, emphasizing that no remnant of them would escape divine wrath.
