Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
So they sent people to get Jeremiah out of the prison courtyard and handed him over to Gedaliah (who was Ahikam's son, and Ahikam was Shaphan's son) to take him home. And that's how Jeremiah ended up living with his own people again.
Sometimes God uses the most unexpected people to set you free and bring you home.
📚 Historical Context
During the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 586 BC, the prophet Jeremiah had been imprisoned by King Zedekiah for his warnings about God's judgment on Judah, which were seen as treasonous. After the city fell to the Babylonians, their officials showed favor to Jeremiah because his prophecies aligned with the events, leading them to release him from prison. They then entrusted him to Gedaliah, a trusted Jewish leader appointed as governor, so he could live safely among the remnant of the people in the land.
