Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Again in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, shall be an habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
This is what the LORD Almighty says: In this place that is now empty, with no people or animals, and in all its cities, there will again be pastures where shepherds rest with their flocks.
God is promising that the desolate, empty land will once again be filled with life, prosperity, and peaceful shepherds caring for their flocks.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah prophesied during the Babylonian exile, a period when Judah was conquered and its people were taken captive, leaving the land desolate and empty of both humans and animals. In this verse, God promises future restoration, envisioning the ruined cities as safe places for shepherds and their flocks, symbolizing peace and prosperity after judgment. This reflects the broader biblical theme of God's covenant faithfulness amid national disaster.
