And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
And it will happen that when you have grown in number and prospered in the land, in those days, says the LORD, people will no longer talk about the ark of the covenant of the LORD. They won't think about it, remember it, visit it, or make another one.
God is saying that in the future, when His people have grown and flourished, they won't need the physical ark of the covenant anymore because something greater will replace it.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the 7th century BC, Judah was facing imminent judgment from God due to widespread idolatry and unfaithfulness, as the nation drifted from its covenant relationship. The Ark of the Covenant was a sacred chest that represented God's presence among the Israelites, kept in the Temple as a symbol of His promises and laws. Jeremiah's prophecy here points to a future era of restoration after exile, where the people's reliance on such physical symbols would fade as God establishes a more direct connection with them.
