And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
And this is what will happen: any nation or kingdom that refuses to serve King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and will not submit to his rule, I will punish with war, famine, and disease until I have completely destroyed them through his power, says the LORD.
God is warning that any nation refusing to submit to Babylon's king will face severe punishment until they are completely destroyed.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy came during the final years before Jerusalem's destruction in 586 BC, when Jeremiah was urging Judah and surrounding nations to surrender to Babylonian rule rather than rebel. Many nations were forming alliances to resist Nebuchadnezzar's expanding empire, but God was using Babylon as His instrument of judgment against the rebellious nations of the region.
