Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.
So now change your ways and your actions, and listen to what the LORD your God is telling you. If you do this, the LORD will change his mind about the disaster he has planned to bring on you.
God is offering his people a chance to avoid judgment by genuinely turning back to him and changing how they live.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah spoke these words during the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, around 609-598 BC, when the nation was facing threats from Babylon. The prophet had been warning that Jerusalem and the temple would be destroyed because of the people's persistent disobedience and idol worship. This verse comes from Jeremiah's temple sermon where he called for national repentance to avoid the coming catastrophe.
