Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
These false prophets plan to make my people forget who I am through the dreams they share with each other, just like their ancestors forgot about me when they worshiped Baal.
God is warning that false prophets are trying to lead His people away from Him through deceptive messages, just as previous generations were led astray.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah prophesied during the final decades before Jerusalem's destruction (around 627-586 BC), when false prophets were giving the people comforting but untrue messages about their safety. Baal was a Canaanite fertility god that the Israelites had repeatedly turned to worship instead of the Lord, causing them to break their covenant relationship with God throughout their history.
