Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
So the LORD will completely destroy Israel's leadership from top to bottom, removing both the highest and lowest ranks, all in a single day.
God is declaring that He will swiftly remove all of Israel's leaders, from the most important to the least, as judgment for their disobedience.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was given during a time when the northern kingdom of Israel was facing imminent destruction by the Assyrian empire around 722 BC. The nation had turned away from God through idolatry and social injustice, and their leaders had failed to guide the people faithfully. Isaiah was warning that God's judgment would be thorough and swift, affecting every level of leadership.
