For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
This is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'You will be saved by turning back to me and finding rest. Your strength will come from being quiet and trusting in me.' But you refused to listen.
God is telling His people that their salvation and strength come from returning to Him and resting in quiet trust, but they rejected this path.
📚 Historical Context
During the 8th century BC, the prophet Isaiah was addressing the people of Judah, who were facing threats from the powerful Assyrian Empire and were tempted to form alliances with Egypt for protection instead of relying on God. Through Isaiah, God offered salvation and strength to His people by urging them to return to Him in repentance and find rest in quiet confidence. However, the people stubbornly rejected this divine counsel, choosing their own political strategies over trust in the Lord.
