And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
And in that day, the survivors of Israel and those who escape from Jacob's family will no longer depend on the one who struck them down. Instead, they will truly depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
God is promising that Israel's survivors will learn to trust in Him alone rather than relying on the very nations that hurt them.
📚 Historical Context
In the time of the prophet Isaiah, around the 8th century BC, the nation of Israel was under severe threat from the Assyrian Empire, which had already conquered the northern kingdom and was looming over Judah, leading to widespread fear and reliance on foreign alliances. This verse is part of a larger prophecy warning against trusting in oppressors like Assyria and instead points to a future restoration where a faithful remnant of Israel would turn back to God alone. It reflects God's consistent pattern in the Old Testament of preserving a remnant through judgment to fulfill His purposes.
