And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
Isaac shook with shock and said, 'Who was it that hunted wild game and brought it to me? I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him! Yes, and he will remain blessed.'
Isaac realizes he has been tricked into blessing Jacob instead of Esau, and declares that the blessing cannot be taken back.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Genesis, Isaac, the patriarch, was old and blind, intending to bless his firstborn son Esau with a special patriarchal blessing as part of ancient family customs. However, Jacob, his younger son, deceived Isaac by disguising himself as Esau and bringing him a meal, leading Isaac to mistakenly give the blessing to Jacob. When Esau returned and the truth came out, Isaac trembled greatly, realizing the blessing was already bestowed and could not be undone, highlighting the weight of such familial and divine pronouncements in that era.
