And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
And God said to Abraham, 'Don't be upset about the boy and your servant woman. Listen to everything Sarah has told you, because your descendants will be named through Isaac.'
God is telling Abraham to trust Sarah's judgment about sending Hagar and Ishmael away, because God's promise will continue through Isaac, not Ishmael.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Abraham and his wife Sarah had long struggled with infertility, leading Abraham to father a son, Ishmael, with Sarah's servant Hagar as a human attempt to fulfill God's promise. Later, God miraculously gave them a son named Isaac, fulfilling His covenant directly through Sarah. When Sarah demanded that Hagar and Ishmael be sent away to protect Isaac's inheritance, God reassured Abraham to follow her advice, emphasizing that the promised lineage would continue through Isaac.
