And the residue in length over against the oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be over against the oblation of the holy portion; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city.
The leftover land next to the holy section will stretch 10,000 cubits east and 10,000 cubits west. This land runs right alongside the holy area, and whatever grows there will feed the people who work in the city.
God makes sure the city workers have land that provides food, he's got everyone covered.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet during the Babylonian exile, where he received visions from God about the future restoration of Israel, including a detailed plan for a new temple and the division of the land among the tribes. This verse specifically describes the allocation of additional land strips east and west of the holy portion to provide food for those serving the city, as part of a broader vision of a perfectly ordered society under God's rule. It reflects the ancient Israelite emphasis on sacred space and practical provision in a restored nation.
