Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
Then they'll finally get it, I'm the LORD their God, the one who let them be taken away to foreign countries as prisoners. But I'm also the one bringing them back home to their own land, and I'm not leaving a single person behind.
God lets you face consequences, but he never abandons his comeback plan for you.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet speaking to the exiled Israelites in Babylon during the 6th century BC, a time when God had allowed His people to be taken captive as judgment for their idolatry and disobedience. This verse is part of a larger prophecy about God's promise to restore Israel by gathering them back to their homeland, emphasizing His control over history and His faithfulness to His covenant. It highlights that through this restoration, the people would recognize God's sovereignty and unique identity as their Lord.
