And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.
Tell them: 'This is what the Lord God says, I'm coming for you, Sidon, and I'm going to show my power right in your city. When I bring judgment and show who I really am, everyone will know that I am the Lord.'
God's about to remind everyone who's really in charge.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet in exile in Babylon during the 6th century BC, delivering God's messages to the Israelites and surrounding nations amid the Babylonian conquests. In this verse, God pronounces judgment on Sidon, a prosperous Phoenician city-state known for its trade, idolatry, and alliances that often opposed Israel, as part of a broader series of prophecies against arrogant nations. This reflects God's use of historical events to demonstrate His sovereignty and call people to recognize Him.
