In their sight shalt thou bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I have set thee for a sign unto the house of Israel.
Do this where everyone can see you, carry your stuff on your shoulders and leave at dusk. Cover your face so you can't see the ground beneath you. I'm making you a living example for the people of Israel.
Sometimes God asks us to be the message, not just deliver it.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC, the prophet Ezekiel was living among the Jewish captives in Babylon, serving as God's mouthpiece to warn of impending judgment. God instructed Ezekiel to perform symbolic acts, like carrying his belongings on his shoulders in the twilight and covering his face, to visually represent the humiliation and forced deportation that the people of Jerusalem would soon face. This was part of Ezekiel's role as a living sign to convey God's message to a rebellious Israel.
