When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
Wherever the creatures moved, the wheels moved with them. When they stopped, the wheels stopped. When they lifted off the ground, the wheels rose up right alongside them. It's because the same spirit that was in those living creatures was also in the wheels, they were completely in sync.
When God's spirit is in something, everything moves together in perfect harmony.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet and priest among the Jewish exiles in Babylon during the 6th century BC, following the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 597 BC. In the first chapter of his book, he recounts a dramatic vision of God's throne chariot, featuring living creatures and wheels that moved in perfect harmony, symbolizing God's divine presence and mobility amid the exile. This vision served to reassure the Israelites that God remained sovereign and actively involved, even in their displacement and hardship.
