And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD’s.
Moses replied to him, 'As soon as I leave the city, I will lift up my hands in prayer to the LORD. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so that you will know the earth belongs to the LORD.'
Moses is telling Pharaoh that God will stop the devastating hailstorm when Moses prays, proving that God is the true ruler over all the earth.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs during the seventh plague against Egypt, when God sent destructive hail and thunder to pressure Pharaoh into releasing the Israelites from slavery. Moses had to leave the city to pray because Egyptian cities were filled with idols, and he wanted to pray in a place not contaminated by false worship.
