And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.
And the LORD said to Moses, 'Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the same words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.'
God is telling Moses to prepare new stone tablets so He can rewrite the Ten Commandments that were destroyed when Moses broke the original tablets in anger.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs after Moses came down from Mount Sinai and found the Israelites worshipping a golden calf, causing him to break the original stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments in righteous anger. God is now graciously offering to restore His covenant law despite the people's rebellion and idolatry.
