Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)
You must celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread: eat bread without yeast for seven days, just as I commanded you, during the appointed time in the month of Abib, because that's when you came out of Egypt. And no one should come before me empty-handed.
God is commanding His people to celebrate their freedom from Egypt every year by eating unleavened bread for seven days and bringing offerings when they worship.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Exodus, God was establishing laws for the Israelites through Moses shortly after their miraculous escape from slavery in Egypt, as part of forming a covenant nation. The Feast of Unleavened Bread commemorated the haste of their departure, when they ate bread without yeast to symbolize purity and the urgency of God's deliverance. This feast was one of several required observances where the people appeared before God with offerings, reinforcing their dependence on Him for provision and protection.
