And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Be careful to follow everything I have told you. Don't mention the names of other gods or let anyone hear you speak about them.
God is telling His people to be careful to obey all His commands and to avoid even speaking about other gods.
📚 Historical Context
In the context of the Exodus, God was giving the Israelites a series of laws through Moses as they journeyed from Egypt toward the Promised Land, aiming to shape them into a holy nation distinct from surrounding cultures. The ancient Near East was dominated by polytheistic societies, such as the Egyptians and Canaanites, who worshipped multiple gods, making this command essential to prevent idolatry and maintain covenant faithfulness. By instructing the people to be circumspect and avoid mentioning other gods, God was reinforcing their exclusive allegiance to Him as their deliverer and king.
