And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
The cloud moved between the Egyptian army and the Israelite camp. For the Egyptians, it was a dark cloud that blocked their view, but for the Israelites, it provided light through the night. Because of this, neither army could get close to the other all night long.
God positioned a supernatural cloud that protected His people by giving them light while keeping their enemies in darkness and at a distance.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Exodus, the Israelites were fleeing from slavery in Egypt under Moses' leadership, with God guiding them through a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night as a visible sign of His presence. As Pharaoh's army pursued them to the edge of the Red Sea, God strategically placed this pillar between the two camps to act as a barrier. This created a division where the Egyptians experienced darkness, halting their advance, while the Israelites received light to continue their journey safely.
