And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:
The locusts will cover the ground so thickly that you won't be able to see the earth beneath them. They will eat everything that survived the hailstorm, and they will devour every tree that grows in your fields.
God is warning that the coming plague of locusts will be so devastating that they will completely cover the land and eat every remaining plant that survived the previous plague.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's warning to Pharaoh through Moses about the eighth plague that would strike Egypt - a massive swarm of locusts. This plague came after seven previous plagues, including the recent hailstorm that had already destroyed much of Egypt's crops. The locusts would finish off whatever vegetation remained, creating complete agricultural devastation.
