Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Jesus took all that hostility and division, all those rules and regulations that kept people apart, and destroyed it through his sacrifice. He took two separate groups and made them into one completely new kind of people, bringing peace where there used to be conflict.
Jesus didn't just bring peace, he created a whole new way for people to be united.
📚 Historical Context
In the first century AD, the Jewish people lived under the Mosaic Law, which included various commandments and rituals that created a clear separation between them and the Gentiles, fostering hostility and division. Paul, writing to the believers in Ephesus, a city in the Roman Empire with a mix of cultures, explained that Jesus Christ abolished this enmity through His death on the cross. This act unified Jews and Gentiles into one new people, symbolizing God's plan for peace and reconciliation.
