And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
And the LORD said to him, 'This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said I would give it to their descendants. I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross over into it.'
God is showing Moses the Promised Land from a distance, fulfilling His promise to let Moses see it even though Moses won't be allowed to enter it.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Moses had led the Israelites through the wilderness for forty years after their exodus from Egypt, but due to his earlier disobedience at the waters of Meribah, God had forbidden him from entering the Promised Land. As Moses neared the end of his life on Mount Nebo, God fulfilled a part of His promise by allowing him to see the land that had been sworn to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This moment highlights God's faithfulness to His covenants despite human failings.
