Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
Then my anger will burn against them on that day, and I will abandon them and turn my face away from them. They will be destroyed, and many terrible troubles will come upon them. When that happens, they will say, 'Haven't these disasters come on us because our God is no longer with us?'
God is warning that if His people abandon Him, He will withdraw His protection and they will face serious consequences that will make them realize they need Him.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses is delivering his final words to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land after their deliverance from Egypt. He is warning them about the dire consequences of breaking their covenant with God, including His anger and withdrawal of protection, which would lead to invasions and hardships. This reflects the conditional nature of God's promises to Israel, where obedience brings blessings and rebellion invites judgment.
