And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
And if the LORD your God expands your territory, as he promised your ancestors, and gives you all the land which he pledged to give to your fathers;
God is reminding the Israelites that he will keep his promise to expand their territory beyond what they initially receive, just as he swore to their ancestors.
📚 Historical Context
Moses was speaking to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land, referring to God's covenant promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The initial inheritance would be smaller than the full extent of what God had promised, which stretched from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates River. This verse is part of instructions about establishing additional cities of refuge as their territory would eventually expand.
