And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
The king must keep this copy of God's law with him and read from it every day of his life. This way he will learn to respect and honor the LORD his God, and he will carefully obey all the words of this law and these commands.
This verse teaches that Israel's future king must read God's law daily throughout his entire reign so he will stay humble before God and obey His commands.
📚 Historical Context
Moses is giving instructions to the Israelites about how to choose and govern under a future king, even though they didn't have one yet. In the ancient Near East, kings were often seen as divine or above the law, but God was establishing that Israel's king must be subject to God's authority. This instruction was meant to prevent the king from becoming proud, corrupt, or leading the people away from God.
