But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:
Instead, you must go to the place that the LORD your God will choose from all your tribes as the place where His name will dwell—that will be His home. You must seek out that place and go there.
God is telling His people that they must worship Him only at the specific place He will choose, not just anywhere they want.
📚 Historical Context
Moses was speaking to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land, instructing them to abandon the scattered worship practices of the Canaanites. Unlike the pagan nations who had multiple shrines and high places for worship, God wanted Israel to worship at one central location that He would designate. This eventually became Jerusalem and the Temple built by Solomon.
