But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
But Joshua, son of Nun, who serves you—he will go into the land. Encourage him, because he will be the one to help Israel take possession of it.
God is telling Moses that Joshua will be the one to lead Israel into the Promised Land and help them claim it as their inheritance.
📚 Historical Context
Moses is speaking to the Israelites near the end of their 40-year wilderness journey, knowing he won't be allowed to enter the Promised Land due to his earlier disobedience. God had already chosen Joshua as Moses' successor to lead the conquest of Canaan. This verse comes as Moses recounts God's instructions about the leadership transition that would soon take place.
