And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
From one of those kingdoms, a small horn started growing, but don't let the 'small' part fool you. This thing became massively powerful, spreading south, east, and into the beautiful land.
Sometimes the smallest threats grow into the biggest problems.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Daniel, chapter 8, the prophet Daniel experiences a vision of a ram and a goat, symbolizing the Medo-Persian and Greek empires that dominated the ancient Near East. The little horn emerges from one of the goat's horns, representing a historical figure like Antiochus IV Epiphanes, a Seleucid king who expanded his influence aggressively toward the south (Egypt), the east, and the land of Israel, often called the pleasant land, during the second century BC. This vision highlights the turmoil of Jewish exile and the persecution faced under foreign rulers.
