Translated by Verse Made Simple Editorial
KJV ORIGINAL
Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

✦ MADE SIMPLE

So here's the deal, when you hear all that music playing (the horns, flutes, harps, and everything else), you better bow down and worship the statue I made. Do that and we're good. But if you don't worship it, I'm throwing you straight into a blazing furnace that same hour. And what god is gonna save you from me?

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

Nebuchadnezzar just gave them an ultimatum: bow down or burn up, and he thinks no god can touch him.

📚 Historical Context

In the historical context of the Babylonian exile, King Nebuchadnezzar had built a massive golden image and commanded all people in his kingdom to bow down and worship it upon hearing specific musical instruments, as a way to enforce loyalty to his rule and gods. This event occurred during the time when Daniel and his friends, Jewish exiles from Judah, were serving in the Babylonian court, facing pressure to conform to pagan practices. The verse specifically records Nebuchadnezzar's ultimatum to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, threatening them with immediate execution in a fiery furnace if they refused to worship the idol.
