And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.
When our time there was up, we had to leave and continue our journey. But here's what got me, the whole community walked with us to see us off, bringing their families, their kids, everyone. They came all the way to the edge of the city with us. Then, right there on the beach, we all got down on our knees and prayed together.
Sometimes the most beautiful goodbyes happen when a whole community shows up to send you off with prayer.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Acts, Paul is on his way to Jerusalem during his third missionary journey, stopping in Tyre where the local believers, warned by the Holy Spirit about the dangers awaiting him, spend several days with him and his companions. This verse captures a moment of farewell as the entire church community, including families, escorts Paul to the shore, reflecting the close-knit nature of early Christian gatherings. Such public prayers were common in the ancient Mediterranean world, emphasizing communal support and spiritual preparation for travel.
