That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
So that everyone else can come looking for the Lord too, all the non-Jewish people who I've called to be mine. This is what the Lord says, and he's the one making it all happen.
God's invitation isn't exclusive, he's opening the door for absolutely everyone to find him.
📚 Historical Context
In the early days of the Christian church, as described in Acts 15, the apostles and elders gathered in Jerusalem to address a major debate: whether Gentile converts needed to follow Jewish laws to be part of the faith. James quoted this verse from the prophet Amos to demonstrate that God's ancient promises included the Gentiles seeking the Lord, emphasizing the inclusion of non-Jews in His plan. This context reflects the first-century expansion of the gospel beyond Jewish communities amid growing tensions between Jewish and Gentile believers.
