And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
We saw everything he did with our own eyes, all the amazing things that happened in Jewish territory and in Jerusalem. And we watched them kill him and hang him on a cross.
They were eyewitnesses to Jesus's whole story, including the brutal ending.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Acts, Peter is speaking to Cornelius, a Roman centurion and Gentile, as part of the early church's mission to extend the gospel beyond the Jews. Peter is recounting the apostles' firsthand experiences with Jesus' ministry, including his teachings and miracles in Judea and Jerusalem, leading up to his death. This verse references Jesus' crucifixion, where he was killed and hung on a tree, a biblical expression drawing from Old Testament law to underscore the shameful nature of his execution.
