Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
So Peter went downstairs to meet the men Cornelius had sent. He walked right up to them and said, 'Hey, I'm the guy you're looking for. What's going on? Why did you come here?'
Peter stepped up and asked the real question: 'What do you need?'
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Acts, which chronicles the early expansion of the Christian church, Peter is in Joppa after receiving a vision from God that challenged traditional Jewish restrictions on associating with Gentiles. This sets the stage for messengers sent by Cornelius, a Roman centurion and devout God-fearer, who had his own vision directing him to seek out Peter. Their encounter marks a pivotal moment in the biblical narrative, illustrating God's plan to extend the gospel beyond Jewish circles to include all people.
