Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
But the Lord had my back and gave me strength so I could share the message completely and make sure everyone, not just the Jewish people, could hear it. And he saved me from serious danger.
When everyone else walks away, God shows up and gives you the strength to keep going.
📚 Historical Context
When Paul wrote his second letter to Timothy, he was imprisoned in Rome and facing imminent danger, likely during his final days under Nero's persecution. He reflects on a previous instance of divine intervention where God strengthened him to boldly proclaim the gospel to the Gentiles, ensuring his message was fully heard. This "mouth of the lion" metaphor probably refers to a life-threatening situation, such as a trial or attack, symbolizing the fierce opposition Paul encountered from Roman authorities.
