And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
Jonadab told him, 'Go lie down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to check on you, ask him to please let your sister Tamar come and prepare food for you. Ask her to make the food right there where you can watch, so you can eat from her hands.'
Jonadab is giving Amnon advice on how to trick his father and get alone time with Tamar by pretending to be sick.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, King David had many children, including Amnon and his half-sister Tamar, during a time of family turmoil in his kingdom. Amnon was consumed by improper desires for Tamar and sought advice from his cunning cousin Jonadab, who suggested a deceptive scheme to isolate her. This plan was part of a larger story of sin and its consequences within David's royal family, as described in the books of Samuel.
