And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
Hezekiah listened to them and showed them everything in his treasury, all his silver, gold, spices, precious oils, weapons, and treasures. There wasn't a single thing in his palace or anywhere in his kingdom that Hezekiah didn't show them.
King Hezekiah foolishly showed off all of his kingdom's wealth and treasures to foreign visitors, holding nothing back.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of King Hezekiah, who ruled Judah around 715-686 BC, the nation was facing threats from powerful empires like Assyria, and Babylon was emerging as a potential ally or rival. After God miraculously healed Hezekiah from a fatal illness through the prophet Isaiah, envoys from Babylon arrived to inquire about the miraculous sign of his recovery. In his pride, Hezekiah showed them all his treasures, an act that revealed his lack of discernment and foreshadowed the eventual Babylonian exile as warned by Isaiah.
