📚 Historical Context
In the 8th century BC, the Assyrian Empire had conquered the Northern Kingdom of Israel, deporting its people and resettling the land with foreigners from other nations. These newcomers encountered problems, such as lion attacks, which they attributed to their ignorance of the local God of Israel and His worship practices. As a result, the Assyrian king decided to send back one of the exiled priests to teach the settlers how to properly honor the God of the land.
