And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
When Ahaz died, they buried him in Jerusalem, but not in the royal cemetery where the kings of Israel were buried. His son Hezekiah became king after him.
This verse tells us that King Ahaz died and was buried in Jerusalem, but because of his unfaithfulness to God, he wasn't given the honor of being buried with the other kings.
📚 Historical Context
Ahaz was one of Judah's most wicked kings who introduced pagan worship practices and even sacrificed his own children to false gods. In ancient Israel, being buried in the royal tombs was a great honor reserved for faithful kings. By denying Ahaz this honor, the people were making a statement about his unfaithful reign and its consequences.
