And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
After two years had passed, his intestines came out because of his terrible illness, and he died from these painful diseases. His people did not honor him with the ceremonial burning they had done for his ancestors.
This verse describes how King Jehoram died a painful, disgraceful death and was not given the funeral honors that previous kings received.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 2 Chronicles, King Jehoram of Judah succeeded his father Jehoshaphat and ruled by leading the people into idolatry, influenced by his marriage to a daughter of the wicked King Ahab of Israel. As a consequence of his unfaithfulness to God, Jehoram was afflicted with a debilitating and painful disease that worsened over two years, ultimately causing his death in disgrace. His lack of proper funeral honors, such as the traditional burning rites given to his ancestors, highlighted the rejection and dishonor he faced from his people due to his sinful reign.
