And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.
So David obeyed what Gad had told him and went up to do what the LORD had commanded.
David is showing obedience by following God's instructions that came through the prophet Gad.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 2 Samuel, King David had sinned by ordering a census of Israel, which provoked God's anger and resulted in a devastating plague upon the land. The prophet Gad, as God's messenger, instructed David to go to the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite and build an altar there to make atonement and stop the plague. David's obedience in this act not only ended the judgment but also marked the location that would later become the site of the Jerusalem temple.
