Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
Therefore, I will let you join your ancestors in death, and you will die peacefully. You won't have to see all the terrible things I'm going to bring on this place. Then the messengers returned to the king with this answer.
God is promising King Josiah that he will die peacefully before the terrible judgment comes upon Jerusalem.
📚 Historical Context
During the reign of King Josiah in ancient Judah around the 7th century BC, the Book of the Law was discovered in the temple, revealing how far the people had strayed from God's commands and leading Josiah to seek divine guidance. God, through the prophetess Huldah, responded with a message of mercy, promising Josiah that because of his humble repentance, he would die in peace and not see the coming destruction upon the land. This verse concludes the account, emphasizing God's compassion for a faithful leader amid a wayward nation.
