So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.
So he died just as the LORD had said through Elijah. And Jehoram took over as king in his place during the second year that Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, because the dead king had no son to inherit the throne.
This verse confirms that King Ahaziah died exactly as God had predicted through the prophet Elijah, and his brother Jehoram became king since Ahaziah had no sons.
📚 Historical Context
This refers to the death of King Ahaziah of Israel, who had consulted pagan gods instead of the LORD when he was injured. The prophet Elijah had pronounced God's judgment that Ahaziah would die from his injuries. Since Ahaziah had no male heir, the throne passed to his brother Jehoram, creating a confusing situation where both Israel and Judah had kings named Jehoram at the same time.
