Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
Then I will tear them up by the roots from my land that I gave them. I will reject this temple that I set apart for my name and throw it away from my presence. I will make it a shocking example and something people mock among all nations.
God is warning that if His people turn away from Him, He will remove them from their land and allow His temple to be destroyed as a warning to other nations.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's response to King Solomon after the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem, as recorded in 2 Chronicles, where God outlines the blessings and curses tied to Israel's obedience. God warns that if the people turn away from Him and worship other gods, He will uproot them from the land He promised them and make the Temple a symbol of disgrace among nations. This reflects the historical pattern of covenant faithfulness in ancient Israel, foreshadowing events like the Babylonian exile.
