For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for every one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD.
Many people in the gathering had not gone through the proper purification ceremonies, so the Levites took responsibility for killing the Passover lambs for everyone who was not ceremonially clean, in order to make them right before the LORD.
The Levites stepped in to help people who weren't properly prepared for Passover by taking care of the sacrificial duties so everyone could still participate in worship.
📚 Historical Context
During the reign of King Hezekiah in ancient Judah, the people were reviving the Passover celebration after years of neglect due to widespread idolatry and spiritual decline. Many in the assembly were not ritually clean as required by Mosaic law, so the Levites took responsibility for preparing and offering the Passover sacrifices on their behalf. This act ensured that the worship could proceed in a way that honored God's holiness and allowed the community to participate fully.
