Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
This is what the LORD says: 'You must not go to war or fight against your fellow Israelites. Every person should go back home, because I have caused this situation to happen.' So they listened to what the LORD said and turned back instead of attacking Jeroboam.
God told His people not to fight against each other in a civil war, and they obeyed Him by going home peacefully.
📚 Historical Context
After King Solomon's death, the united kingdom of Israel split into the northern kingdom under Jeroboam and the southern kingdom under his son Rehoboam, due to growing tensions and divine judgment. Rehoboam assembled an army to fight Jeroboam and reclaim the north, but God sent a prophet to command him not to go to war, declaring that this division was His doing. As a result, Rehoboam and his forces obeyed and returned home, preventing a civil conflict.
