✦ MADE SIMPLE

When David heard that Nabal had died, he said, 'Praise the LORD! He has defended me against Nabal's insults and kept me from doing something evil. The LORD has brought Nabal's own wickedness back on himself.' Then David sent messengers to speak with Abigail about marrying her.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

David praised God for handling his conflict with Nabal through divine justice rather than David's own revenge, and then pursued marriage with Nabal's widow Abigail.

📚 Historical Context

This follows the story where the wealthy but foolish Nabal insulted David and refused to help his men, prompting David to plan violent revenge. Abigail, Nabal's wise wife, intervened with gifts and convinced David not to shed blood. Shortly after, God struck Nabal dead, removing David's enemy without David having to take matters into his own hands.
