✦ MADE SIMPLE

When David heard that Nabal had died, he said, 'Praise the LORD! He has defended me against Nabal's insults and kept me from doing something evil. The LORD has brought Nabal's own wickedness back on himself.' Then David sent messengers to speak with Abigail about marrying her.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

David praised God for handling his conflict with Nabal through divine justice rather than David's own revenge, and then pursued marriage with Nabal's widow Abigail.

📚 Historical Context

In the time of King Saul, David was a fugitive living in the wilderness, where he and his men had protected the flocks of a wealthy man named Nabal. When David requested provisions as a gesture of goodwill, Nabal insultingly refused, leading David to prepare for revenge. However, Nabal's wise wife Abigail intervened with gifts and counsel, and shortly after, Nabal died suddenly, which David saw as God's direct judgment and justice.
